"She is not that type of person, she is not that type. I never see she drink any alcohol in front of me, more than a soda. So that was surprising to me because she don't drink in front of me," said Iyana Butler, adding that Brown, who attended the Tacius Golding High School, had ambitions of becoming a geriatric nurse.

"She say she liked taking care of old people and that is why she wanted to go back to Distinction College to go do nursing," Butler said.

Brown left her house in Kentish six months ago and began living with friends at Macca Tree.

Butler said she was trembling in a car from her home in Kentish, St Catherine, to a neighbouring community called Macca Tree, after she received a disturbing phone call that her daughter was unresponsive.

"I was hoping and praying that it was a joke, and that she would wake up," Butler told THE STAR on Saturday as shock and disbelief hugged her face.

"I am not coping well. I have not eaten much from Thursday. I can't eat, this is hard to cope with," the distraught mother added.

Medical doctor Khia Duncan, asked to comment on the impact that consuming high volume of alcohol could have, said that persons can sometime go in hypovolemic shock.

"She probably died from massive dehydration and massive volume loss, which we call hypovolemic shock," Duncan said.

Duncan stressed that it is important that persons avoid excessive drinking, especially when they are out partying.

"Drink in moderation. Do not binge drink as that can overwhelm organs, cause mental impairment and lead to death. Also, do not drink on an empty stomach," she said.

Director of Public Prosecutions, Paula Llewellyn, asked whether there are legal implications for the persons who gave Brown the drinks said this may only take place if it is determined that the shots were spiked.

"You can't even begin to think that anything until a post-mortem because one does not know if she might have had some congenital issue that she born with, and that stressed with that alcohol sparked something. The post-mortem will have to be very thorough, which will also include examining tissue in respect of what drugs, whether alcohol or drugs, might be in her system," Llewellyn said.
